Madejas is a cozy place to keep your knitting patterns, row counters, markings, notes, and progress photos together. It is designed especially for reading and working with pattern PDFs on a phone or tablet.

Yes. Madejas is free and always will be.

If you'd like to support its development, you can leave a small tip. It's entirely optional and never changes what the app can do.

No. You can start using Madejas without creating an account or sharing your email address.

Google Drive and Ravelry connections are optional and use your existing accounts with those services.

On Android, open Madejas in Chrome, open the browser menu, and choose Install app or Add to Home screen.

On an iPhone or iPad, open Madejas in Safari, tap Share, and choose Add to Home Screen.

You can also use Madejas directly in your browser without installing it.

Yes. Once the app has loaded and your pattern has been added, you can knit without internet access.

Connecting to Ravelry, backing up to Google Drive, and synchronizing between devices do require an internet connection.

By default, your patterns, counters, markings, notes, and journal photos stay in your browser on your device. They are not uploaded to Madejas or sent anywhere else.

If you enable Google Drive synchronization, a backup is also stored in your own Google Drive.

Yes. Connect Google Drive and enable synchronization to back up your projects and bring them onto another device.

Without Google Drive synchronization, projects remain only on the browser and device where you created them.

Madejas creates a KnitPatternReader folder in your Google Drive. Your pattern, project information, markings, counters, notes, and journal photos can be stored there for backup and synchronization.

Madejas only requests access to files it creates itself. It cannot browse the rest of your Drive.

Connecting Ravelry lets you search your Ravelry library and import available pattern PDFs into Madejas.

Ravelry is used for importing patterns, not for storing or synchronizing your Madejas projects.

You can create projects from PDF files or images. You can also combine several images into a single pattern.

Patterns with downloadable PDFs can be imported directly from your Ravelry library.

Remove Madejas from your home screen as you would any other installed app. You can still open it later in your browser.

Removing the home-screen app may not remove its locally stored data. Browsers keep site data separately.

Not necessarily. Removing the app icon may leave your projects in the browser.

Clearing Madejas’s site data from your browser will permanently delete projects stored on that device. Back up anything important to Google Drive first.

Deleting a project removes its local copy from that device.

If the project was backed up to Google Drive, its Drive copy is not automatically deleted. You must remove those files separately from the KnitPatternReader folder in Google Drive.

To remove local projects and settings, clear Madejas’s site data through your browser settings.

You can disconnect Google Drive and Ravelry from Madejas’s settings. Any project backups already stored in Google Drive must be deleted separately from your KnitPatternReader folder.
